7 Great Back Pain Treatment Options
The great thing about chiropractic care is that it helps so many people of all ages and conditions. We love helping our patients get out of pain here in our Myrtle Beach office as well as up north in New Jersey. However, there are times when we can’t help a patient, or we can with a little help of other medical disciplines. In those cases, we refer out and find the right place for them to go to receive the right treatment appropriate to them. So here’s a few of the great back pain treatment options available.
I will start with chiropractic care because it’s what I know best. Chiropractic care deals with the decompression of the spine in order to release any trapped nerves, re-align joints and to enable the patient to function properly again. We help with trigger points on muscles which cause joints to compress and much more. Essentially, we are looking to solve the cause of the problem, rather than the symptoms, but we do work very well with the other disciplines to achieve this.
Orthpedic & Spine Doctors
In more complex cases, it’s always good to have another set of professional eyes on the problem. We work well with orthopedics in our area in helping our patient’s get out of pain. Surgery needn’t be an option either but having orthopedics provide their insight can help you make an informed decision as to the best course of action for you.
Like chiropractic care, physical therapy deals in decompressing the spine and traction. They also do muscle work to help the problem from repeating. Many people who don’t do well with chiro, do well with PT, and vice versa.
Never discount your primary doctor either. He knows you well, and of course your medical history. He may prescribe anti inflammatory drugs or muscle relaxers to ease your pain. It’s at this point where you should also combine treatments with chiropractic or PT to get to the root of the problem, while the drugs provide temporary relief.
Pain Management Doctors
Even though these guys have had a bad rap lately, they are still excellent at what they do, and have many different things they can do for you such as medication, injections and therapies to help reduce pain.
It’s a technique that’s been around for millenia. While it’s still seen as pseudo science, it has helped millions throughout history. Why not give it a try, it can be a good starting point at least and if it works, that’s fantastic. If not, then consider any of the other options above.
This cannot be underestimated, and even if you are being treated professionally, it’s still important to follow up with your own home care under direction of your doctor. Things like inversion tables, icing the area, back belt supports, yoga and stretches exercises all can help. Be consistent though.
So while back pain is painful and burdensome, there are many options available to help it. If we can’t help you, we know a man who can and we will work with other doctors to help you get out of pain.
