I see many people coming into both my practices here in Myrtle Beach SC and up in Vineland NJ in pain. Naturally, they come to see me as chiropractic care is about the best conservative treatment for back and neck pain. No opioids and no surgery, it is totally non invasive and does the job of decompressing the joints, releasing muscle spasms and trigger points and allowing the body to function as normal.
All of this of course takes money in co-pays, deductibles and out of pocket. It’s also harder to get someone out of pain as well, especially if they are in bad shape.
What the aim of this post is to encourage those of you who aren’t in pain, and those of you who are working towards getting out of pain to find ways to stay out of pain. Why? Because it’s better to maintain an out of pain lifestyle than one that is dominated by pain.
So what do we mean by this? Well, there are several things we can do to ensure that we keep our bodies in good shape and to reduce the chances of falling into pain again. Here’s a few of the things I do to help me stay out of pain.
This is number one. It isn’t just for those of you in pain. We see a lot of people who come in for an adjustment just to reduce those chances of having back or neck pain. They see it as part of their health and fitness workout and to keep their bodies in good state. This isn’t something they do every week (although there’s no harm in this), many of our return patients simply come in once every other week or once a month, once every six weeks or so. They find by doing this, they are rarely in pain and it’s helped in other areas of their lives too.
If you are prone to the odd twinge now and again, it’s a great idea to ice the areas of the body where you are most prone to pain. The neck or lower back, just for 20 minutes or so a night. It helps to reduce inflammation.
These are really cheap and great for helping to stretch your back and crack those joints. Lay down on it a couple of times a day and roll up and down on your back and it will really help to decompress your joints.
These are good to help alleviate pain and give you a break if you are finding yourself sore for any reason.
So a combination of all or some of these techniques is fantastic to help you stay out of pain. And if you can remain out of pain you will obviously be happier. It’s like owning a car, if you’re sensible you will maintain it regularly rather than waiting for a problem to occur and then deal with it. Regular maintenance ensures proper function and can also identify problems before they’ve even happened.
